1. How much POLYMATRx should I add to one gallon of paint? When painting vertical outdoor surfaces, add one quart of POLYMATRx to a gallon of acrylic latex or latex paint.
2. When should I add more POLYMATRx to my paint mix? Because of the harsh exposure they get, we recommend that you double the amount of POLYMATRx when painting horizontal surfaces such as decks. We also offer a deck coating called UDF-21, which contains a tough resin system that contains POLYMATRx. Learn more about UDF_21.
3. Will POLYMATRx change the color of my paint? POLYMATRx will lighten the color of the paint while it’s in the container, but will dry to the original color.
4. Will POLYMATRx change the way I paint? No. Paint modified with POLYMATRx can be brushed, rolled, or sprayed with the same equipment you were planning to use.
5. Is POLYMATRx toxic? What about cleanup? POLYMATRx is no more toxic than standard latex paint. POLYMATRx is built with latex polymers that cross-link with the ones that are in your paint. It is water-based. Follow the same care and handling procedures that you use with paint. Cleanup is a breeze. Clean with water or water and soap.
6. Why doesn’t paint last? It may be hard to see, but all surfaces move during changing weather conditions. The ability of a coating to expand and contract with a surface is it’s lifelong challenge. When paint is young and fresh, it is fairly elastic and can “go along for the ride”, but as it ages, it gets brittle. At this point, it can no longer expand and contract so it begins to crack. Weather/water can now enter and the surface begins to move even more. This is when paint will fail, crack, and peel away.
7. How does POLYMATRx improve the performance of paint? POLYMATRx significantly improves both the adhesion and most importantly, the elasticity of the paint. When you add POLYMATRx to your paint, you increase the elasticity of the paint by up to 700%! This new elastomeric coating is able to move with the surface for decades.
8. How long has POLYMATRx been in service? The product was developed over thirty years ago in South Florida and was widely used by contractors throughout the region (visiting Canadians also bought this product for use in Canada) . Given the successful 20+ year history of applications in two very challenging and different environments, we decided to sell it. Since we began selling it in early 2000, it’s been used all over North America and parts of Europe. At this time (May 2010) we have not had a single product return – or a complaint! This outstanding record is something we are very proud of!
9. Why don’t the big paint companies sell a product like this? Why are you selling it? Big paint companies don’t want to sell a product that makes their product obsolete. Big paint companies practice something called “planned obsolence”. They want their product to fail at some point because they want to sell paint. We sell solutions.
